Fire Glass UK Ltd is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers, suppliers, and glaziers of fire and acoustic glass, and is looking to appoint a Glass operative at their Bristol branch:
Glass Operative responsibilities includes cutting glass of various thicknesses by hand or by operating glass production machinery, into specific sizes or shapes, working to a no-tolerance standard.
Your Tasks
1. Operate various glass cutting machinery.
2. Observe gauges, computer printouts and monitors to verify specified processing conditions and make adjustments as necessary.
3. Set up and adjust automatic glass feeding, flowing and forming machines.
4. Cut glass and mirrors to specified size and shape, using patterns, straightedge, tape measure, glass cutting tools.
5. Break away excess glass by hand or with notched tool or glass pinchers.
6. Examine and mark defective glass, to obtain best cut.
7. Position pattern or drawing on glass, measure dimensions, and mark cutting lines, using glass tools.
8. Smoothes and polishes rough edges using belt sander, straight line polisher or polishing wheels.
9. Operate furnace to produce toughened glass.
10. Sandblasts glass surface within guidelines, using sandblasting tools.
11. Loading and unloading stillage for dispatch.
12. Ensure Health and safety standards are adhered to at all times.
13. Maintain stock levels keeping a note of batch numbers for glass cut and off cuts produced.
14. Comply with the company’s policies and procedures as set out within the Employee Handbook, Accreditations
Manual (including Best Practice Quality Guide) and the Health and Safety Manual, as updated from time to time.
15. Comply with the requirements for the role as set out within the company’s Integrated Management System
(currently comprising of the Quality Management System, Environmental Management System and the Health
and Safety Management System), as updated from time to time.
16. Comply with the requirements of any Core Duties or other relevant procedural or policy document applicable to
your role.
17. The post holder must also undertake other duties within his/her competence or otherwise appropriate to the grading of the post as required.

Your Profile
Demonstrate a sound working practice and understanding of glass production techniques and practices.
Ability to interpret information, follow instructions identifying problems and possible resolution.
Experience of working quickly and accurately – demonstrate ‘right first time’ attitude, in order to meet production targets, quality control and delivery requirements.
Ability to exercise initiative and independence in carrying out this role, whilst also working effectively as part of a team to meet tight deadlines and customer expectations.
Maintain effective communication with management and peers.
Experience of performing quality inspections to ensure materials/service provided comply with laws, regulations and agreed standards prior to sign off and handover.
Demonstrate awareness of the importance of health & safety within the workplace, particularly with regards to manual handling glass.
An awareness of, and commitment to, equality of opportunity
Demonstrate an understanding of equalities in the workplace.
Experience: specify type, level and qualitative (not quantitative required); if any.
Broad experience of working within the glass industry is essential.
Previous experience of operating CNC machinery would be an advantageous but not essential.
Qualification: specify type and level required (including equivalents); if any.
NVQ level 2 would be advantageous but not essential.
